How artificial intelligence will revolutionize the world of graphic design? by Andre Hughes Graphics and artificial intelligence Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the world. Quebec, of this revolution that will affect our daily lives. Several professions will be profoundly modified, others will disappear, while new professions will become essential. But what about the profession of graphic designer? How will artificial intelligence affect the graphic designers of today and tomorrow? Déjà vu Previously, graphic design was the result of the manipulation of pencil, film and lead type. The arrival of computers, in particular the Macintosh in 1984, allowed the use of software for the creation of visuals. Over the years, this software has evolved. Today, this same software is able to understand what we do and assist us in creation.
Artificial intelligence in today's software Adobe Sensei Adobe ( Photoshop , Illustrator , InDesign , Acrobat …) is by far the most used suite of software by graphic designers today. In 2016, Adobe image manipulation service Sensei technology was integrated into this suite. This technology notably allows facial recognition in photos. Concretely, we can retouch a portrait in Photoshop asking it to accentuate the smile, open the eyelids or even slim the face. The Face-Aware Liquify tool automatically recognizes facial features and allows us to modify them individually. The same technology allows InDesignto import several photos at the same time and to automatically crop the images according to the faces identified. It is also possible to change the format of a document and let InDesign redistribute spacing and alignments according to the content.
In Illustrator , we can now choose our fonts according to specific criteria and the software suggests similar fonts. Finally, the creation of forms in Acrobat is greatly facilitated by the detection and automatic creation of fields to be filled. The software even makes a distinction between a signature field versus a print name field. For years, it was possible to perform these functions, but it required a lot of operations and a combination of tools. What's impressive about these new features is that the software understands the content we're working with . These few examples are already available in the latest versions of Adobe and these features only improve the accuracy and efficiency of these tools, while developing other tools.
