Zirwes photographs swimming pools from the air showing a perspective that we never see from an aesthetic and ethical point of view Attracted by crystal clear waters, made even more appetizing by being contained in containers made of bright blue materials with straight or sinuous edges, Stephan Zirwes has been photographing swimming pools from the sky since 2015. This German photographer shows us these long-awaited man-made oases from a perspective we are not used to, revealing the beauty of their symmetry, their curves and their colors that inevitably scream summer! Zirwes began his career as a photographer in the 1990s and his images have always had several layers of meaning: an aesthetic, but also an ethical one.

The idea for this series came about while he photo retouching service was on his photographic helicopter tours of the United States and South Africa; There practically any family with money has a private pool and this made Zirwes reflect on the importance of free access to water and the need for public pools. An idea that he wants to spread with his 'Pools' project. The beauty of pool photography from a bird's eye view 1 Although with the rise of new technologies and the democratization of photography from heights, these types of shots are becoming more common, the German's photographs stand out for their search for harmony in the architecture of swimming pools seen from an overhead perspective, observing their colors and their shapes.

In 2015, when he began his series of photographs of swimming pools in Europe, he was taking the images from a helicopter, several hundred meters above the ground; in recent years he has been able to afford to bring his target closer to the ground thanks to drones. Later, in post-production, he uses the existing ground patterns to further frame the focus of the images: the pool. The beauty of pool photography from a bird's eye view 3 The bird's-eye photographs of these swimming pools that Zirwes has captured in different European cities are added to the rest of the aerial shots of landscapes, soccer fields, frozen surfaces, agricultural fields and airports that characterize his work.
