What is the GDPR? The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) is the new general data protection regulation launched two years ago but which officially came into force on 25 May 2018. This regulation applies to all companies that hold, collect and store information about EU citizens that makes them personally identifiable, even if it is just their name, email address or computer IP address. In addition to this, the GDPR also includes data provided to third parties such as web developers, virtual assistants, web hosts, email marketing providers, analytics providers, plugins installed on websites and more.
While data may not be the new oil , it certainly wields power in virtually every aspect of society, from business to government to infrastructure. In the age of cyberattacks and data breaches, personal information is under the microscope more than ever. The purpose of the web designs and development service GDPR regulation is to protect people's privacy and ensure that data that could personally identify them is stored and used ethically, and that it is disposed of in a timely and correct manner. This includes the possibility and right to allow the user to completely delete the data. Furthermore, the regulation requires that data is collected for specific, explicit and legitimate purposes and not further processed in a way incompatible with those purposes.
Before this entry into force of the GDPR, each EU country had its own privacy laws, while since 25 May 2018 there has been the unification of data protection laws for a single and coherent approach. Why is data protection so important? Or rather how personal data is becoming a commodity Everything we do online leaves an indelible impression. Companies track the searches we do, the websites we visit, the things we buy, the phone calls we make, the photos we save, where we go, and much, much more.
