CARPENTRY To share: pvc myths material Despite the increase in the use of PVC in our country, especially in the manufacture of high-performance windows, there are still many myths surrounding this material. Myths that have little to do with reality and that hide the many advantages of PVC. We are going to review all this, always taking as a basis the PVC formulation used in KÖMMERLING. Do PVC windows warp or yellow? There is a tendency to think that since PVC is plastic, the windows will be more fragile, they will deform and their appearance will soon cease to be the same as the first day. A thought that has little to do with reality, since the useful life of PVC windows is around 50 years , remaining in perfect condition throughout the entire time. Furthermore, in the case of windows, the profiles incorporate steel reinforcements that offer greater resistance. The belief that PVC yellows is also not true, no matter how much sun exposure the profiles are exposed to. It must be taken into account that this does not happen with all PVC windows, since whether or not a profile discolors will depend on the PVC formulation used by each company.

At KÖMMERLING we use Kömalit Z , a formula that provides  Country Email List resistance to the profiles, prevents them from fading and is not harmful to the environment. In the case of foliated profiles, PX technology is used , which is free of plasticizers and incorporates an innovative sun protection treatment. This technology acts as a shield by reducing the temperature absorbed by the sheets, improving durability and color stability. In fact, a 10-year guarantee on color stability and 15 on adhesion is offered. Better if it is with thermal break? Well yes and no, and we are going to explain why. If the material we are talking about is aluminum, to improve its insulation we do need to break the thermal bridge, since it is a highly conductive material. In the case of PVC we do not need to break any thermal bridge, given its low level of thermal transmittance. To understand it better, we have all burned ourselves cooking with an aluminum spoon, but we have not done it if the handle was plastic. Are PVC windows much more expensive? This is another of the widespread rumors that is not entirely true.

You pay for quality, and purchasing a high-performance PVC window is not cheap, but it will cost practically the same or less than an aluminum window with thermal break (the only way to obtain insulation levels that approximate those of the PVC). Therefore, if we want a high level of insulation, the price will be quite similar between materials. In this aspect, something similar happens to when we choose to carry out a Passivhaus or EECN project. The initial investment provides long-term savings (on heating and air conditioning bills) that allows you to recover the investment and continue saving. There are no design or color options A few years ago we would agree with this statement, but today the possibilities are so many that there is no excuse. High-performance enclosures can be installed without sacrificing aesthetics. On the KÖMMERLING Official Network you can obtain windows with profiles of curved lines, straight lines, with a greater or lesser proportion of exposed glass, with wood finishes, metallic finishes...options with which to adapt to any architectural style.
